SERVICE OVERVIEW
A Practical Completion Inspection – sometimes referred to as a ‘handover inspection’ – is an important part of your new build process.
It takes place at the completion of your build before the final handover and provides an important opportunity for any faults and defects to be identified and rectified before you move in to your new home.
A PCI is usually conducted as the last in a series of staged new home construction inspections at critical points throughout the build process.
A PCI is preceded by base/steel, frame, lock-up/pre-plaster, and fixing stage inspections. The Home Inspection Hub can conduct these as stand-alone inspections or package them according to your needs.
If serious defects are identified, you are entitled to request your builder to fix them, and this can be followed by a reinspection to ensure all issues have been satisfactorily dealt with before final contract payments are made.
Elements checked during a PCI:
FLOORING
Our inspector will check that the flooring has been laid correctly.
HARDWARE
We check that all hardware is fitted, including doors.
FIXTURES AND FITTINGS
Our inspector will check that fixtures and fittings are installed correctly and drawers and doors are aligned.
WET AREAS
We check that all wet areas have been appropriately sealed and caulked.
EXTERNAL TREATMENTS
We check that external treatments including caulking to expansion joints have been completed and the workmanship meets the applicable standard.
PAINT FINISHES
We check that paint finishes meet the standards set out in the Guide to Standards and Tolerances.
PLUMBING
We check that all plumbing has been completed.

POPULAR QUESTIONS
The team at The Hub will aim to meet your requirements in arranging the inspection time. Your inspector will contact your site supervisor, on your behalf, to arrange a time that suits everyone. Your inspector will then contact you to confirm the date and time of the inspection.
At The Hub, we can carry out inspections across metropolitan Melbourne, Central Victoria, Geelong and the Mornington Peninsula.
Depending on the size and condition of the property, a standard inspection will take approximately 1-2 hours to complete.
Your inspector can meet you onsite 45 minutes after the conclusion of the inspection. If you are unable to meet at the site, your inspector will verbally take you through his findings via a phone call and your report will then be emailed directly to you once completed.
Your report will be prepared using our purpose-built software. Our inspector will then email you a copy of the report – in most cases within 24 hours of the conclusion of your inspection.
